Golden Parent

Have you ever been so busy that you forget to take time for your children? It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life, but it’s important that we remember to slow down and be present with our kids. In this blog post, we will explore nine tips on how to become a more present parent.

Schedule time for yourself

As parents, it can be difficult to make time for ourselves. But if you don’t have time for yourself, you won’t have enough energy left over to be truly present with your children. Take some time each day or week just for yourself—whether it’s an hour of exercise, a cup of tea, or reading a book.

Set boundaries

When you are setting boundaries with your children, stay firm but also explain why they are necessary. This will help them understand the importance of boundaries and respect them in the future.

Be flexible

Being flexible is an important part of parenting. Children need our guidance and support as they navigate their world; however, try not to be too rigid about your expectations for them. Allow them some freedom within the boundaries you have set so that they can learn and grow in their own way.

Listen

Listening is one of the best ways to show your child that you are present with them — even when physically apart from each other at times! Let your child express themselves without judgement and really listen to what they have to say — even if it isn’t something you agree with or understand fully at first glance (or even second!).

Acknowledge their feelings

We all experience emotions throughout the day — both good and bad — and our children are no different! Acknowledging their feelings helps validate their experience and teaches them how to manage their emotions in healthy ways instead of pushing them away or ignoring them altogether.

Show gratitude

Teaching our children gratitude helps foster positive self-esteem and encourages kind behavior towards others — two things every parent wants! Make sure you thank your child when they do something kind or helpful; this will not only show your appreciation but will also give them incentive to continue doing good things!

Start conversations

Conversation is key when it comes to connecting with your child! Ask open-ended questions about their interests, school day, or friends — anything that allows them an opportunity to share what is going on in their lives without feeling like they are being judged or interrogated by mom or dad.

Play games

Playing games together gives you an opportunity to bond with your child while having fun at the same time! It doesn’t matter if it’s board games, video games, sports — whatever type of game works best for both of you.

Unplug and connect

Technology has its place in our lives but can sometimes take away from quality family time together–so unplugging from electronic devices once in awhile is essential! Put away phones and laptops (and other distractions) during mealtimes and other special occasions so that everyone can connect and enjoy each other's company without interruption.

Being a parent is hard work but also incredibly rewarding when done right – so don't forget about taking time out for yourself and making sure those special moments between you and your child count! By following these simple tips outlined above, parents everywhere can learn how to become more present with their kids and create lasting memories filled with love and laughter along the way. Good luck fellow parents – let's make this parenting journey one worth remembering forever!
